Faux Silk Panels

Silk has a rich history of being a decorative element for the rich and mighty, especially in the East. As a particularly lavish and opulent symbol, its popularity will not wane anytime soon. No wonder people desire to use it in their homes. Silk window panels and curtains are seen as luxurious and rich additions to a room. However, they are expensive. Faux silk is much more affordable, and it is hard to tell the difference between it and the pricey counterpart. The differences between real and fake silk are minimal and not visual, so faux silk is a great way to save money and still get the look you want.

There are many difficulties with using silk or faux silk as curtains. Both fade in the sunlight and are hard to keep wrinkle-free. If a window gets a lot of direct sunlight, you should add a layer of another fabric, perhaps something sheer, that can accent the look of the silk while preserving the curtains. Depending on the curtain layout, be prepared to do regular wrinkle maintenance on the fabrics.

There are many decorative benefits to using faux silk. The material can be replaced at a much lower cost than real silk if it does fade. Silk in general adds a more lavish feel to a room, and silk materials go with almost every decorative style. Since silk is a very light material, a heavy curtain rod does not have to be used. A normal rod can be hidden easily, making the curtains more affordable. Also, smaller decorative rods can be purchased to create different looks.
