How Do You Treat Bay Windows?

How do you treat a bay window?  There are several ways to go about this. The easiest thing to do if you have room on the inside of the drywall is to inside mount a hard window treatment.  Hard window treatments such as wooden blinds, cellular shades, some kind of woven wood or verticals. When you have these on the windows for light control you can dress them up with a fabric.  If you do not have room for an inside mounted hard window treatment of choice you can outside mount something.  When you do this you have to account for the depth of the headrail and make sure they can fit at the angles. If this is the case you really should get a professional to help with the measuring.

Back to fabrics. The most simple and popular way to dress up a bay window is put a swag on the top of the windows.  Pick a fabric that blends with the colors in the room. Some fabrics that are good for this is something soft like sheer fabric, a soft satin, faux silks, or a lighter weight woven would do the trick. All you need are 4 pendant like tiebacks or something that would hold the fabric at the corner of each window. Drape the fabric across these pendants and swag them to cover each headrail of the hard window treatment. This is the easiest thing to do.Then you could get into something custom like a valance. This will cost some money, but really utilizes the fabric into whatever shape you'd like on the top of the windows. This can have a very upscale effect as shown on the home page of my site. That one is very simple but could be as complex as you'd like. Once again a professional designer will help you pick out just the right style for your decor.

Then, like the picture above, you could also choose a fabric to have made into panels to come down between each seperation of the windows to frame them.  Gorgeous isn't it? This is my all time favorite. There are so many looks you can achieve with this simple treatment.

Once you have something up there you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.  It adds such a finishing touch to a room. It actually stabilizes sound and makes the room feel so much more solid and quiet to have window treatments done. So contact us for a local designer and they can help bring your idea's to life.
